Showdown Sunday #19: Hans Zimmer vs. James Horner

Welcome Back to Showdown Sunday #19.

Every week we pit two movie related forces (characters, movies, directors, etc) against each other and you guys vote who wins (via. Fan Poll).

Within the last few years, I’ve slowly gone from listening to popular music on the radio, to soundtracks of my favorite movies. Some of my favorite composers in the industry are well known names like John Williams, Hans Zimmer, the late James Horner, and Bill Conti. Without a doubt Williams is the greatest there ever was, at least in my opinion. So its pointless trying to compare him against anyone. However, the other names I mentioned make a more interesting comparison.

This week I decided to ask my followers “who in your opinion is the greater composer between Hans Zimmer and James Horner?“. Before you decide, here’s a quick rundown on their most notable works & achievements.

James Horner 2 Academy Awards & 8 Academy Award nominations.

Best Known For:

  • Aliens (1986)
  • Field of Dreams (1989)
  • Braveheart (1995)
  • Titanic (1997)
  • A Beautiful Mind (2001)
  • Avatar (2009)
  • The Amazing Spider-Man (2012)

Hans Zimmer 1 Academy Award & 9 Academy Award nominations.

Best Known For:

  • The Lion King (1994)
  • The Rock (1996)
  • Gladiator (2000)
  • The Last Samurai (2003)
  • The Dark Knight (2008)
  • Inception (2010)
  • Interstellar (2014)

Regardless of who you choose, we can all agree these two are great composers. However, I’m asking you to vote for the greater in your opinion. As always, if you liked this Showdown Sunday, be sure to share this with your followers and get their opinions.
