Those of you lucky enough to have missed X-Men Origins: Wolverine probably aren’t aware, but Wolverine and Deadpool share a history onscreen. The movie famously debuted Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool (a.k.a. The Merc with the Mouth), before infamously mishandling the character during the film’s ending (by sewing shut his mouth, among other things). Its been seven years since the movie, which isn’t nearly long enough for Reynolds.
A recent viral video for Deadpool celebrated Australia Day, and during the video Reynolds (as Deadpool) mentioned Wolverine himself, and his thoughts on the movie.
“You gave us Wolverine. And for that, I can’t forgive you,” he says in an awful Aussie accident. “I’ve got no problems with Hugh. I mean, he’s a delightful guy. A true legend. But that movie, that was a career-low for me.”
Its understandable when you go from this…
The kind words found its way to Hugh Jackman during a promotional interview for Eddie the Eagle, and the Wolverine star had some playful words for the X-Men universe’s newest star. (via. Collider)
“Love it. It’s just brilliant. I mean, I love Ryan, he’s a good mate of mine. He’s so fantastic,” Jackman answered cheerily.
The following question is one which any interviewer would ask. Would Wolverine beat Deadpool in a one-on-one fight?
“A hundred percent,” a grinning Jackman replied without missing a beat.
These words can go a long way, especially with the power of social media. I would love nothing more than for Jackman to star in an R-rated sequel to Deadpool. However, the veteran actor has repeatedly said that Wolverine 3 would be his final movie playing the character. Still, it doesn’t hurt to ask, which is what this interviewer did. His response, offered an alternative solution.
“I’ve never thought about it till now, but doing something with Ryan – he’s awesome – that’s always attractive to me. But I think you’ve probably got several other people lined up to play [Wolverine]… probably you,” he says, pointing to his Eddie the Eagle co-star and Kingsman: The Secret Service breakout Taran Egerton.
“I don’t think I’ve quite got the facial hair for it,” said the young actor, chuckling.
Its somewhat unfortunate how the Fox is finally beginning to set up a cinematic universe for X-Men, just as Hugh Jackman is exiting. However, the actor has given us 17 great years as the character. If anyone deserves to go out on their own terms, its him.
