Thor: Ragnarok caught my attention BIG TIME with the announcement that Bruce Banner/Hulk will play an important role in the movie. It also solved the question as to why Thor and Hulk will not be present in Captain America: Civil War, because they’ll be dealing with bigger and more threatening issues in outer space. Their absence also makes Civil War a more fair fight between the two sides, but that’s an entirely other discussion. Now the question is, how exactly will Hulk become involved in Ragnarok.
The last time we saw the big guy, he was taking off in a Quin-jet somewhere. Obviously, that jet went to space to an unknown destination. Well, even with 22 months until the film’s release, a new rumor suggests Hulk’s whereabouts will be along the lines of a fan-favorite comic book story-line. Check out the rumored report from Geek.com (via. ComicBook.com) that explains how it all goes down.
“Loki and Hela’s plan involves the major arc of the Marvel Universe, and just when it looks like Thor is about to put a stop to it, he gets banished — but not to any old planet. He ends up on a gladiatorial planet where his head is shaved and he’s forced to fight for his life. Let’s call this planet Sakaar, like it was in the comic books.
Thor knows that he has to get to some MacGuffin weapon object to defeat Hela and Loki (could this be the Infinity Gauntlet that Thanos is in possession of, or maybe an assemblage of Infinity Stones?) and he has to get off the planet. Thor runs through all of his alien opponents in gladiatorial combat, even without his trademark hammer. Finally, Thor has to face the current champion of the arena, and wouldn’t you know who that ends up being? The Hulk.”
The report goes on to say that the Hulk hasn’t reverted back to Bruce Banner since Avengers: Age of Ultron, but the two personas are beginning to merge, and so the Green Goliath recognizes Thor. It’s from here that Hulk and Thor begin the cosmic road trip the film has been billed as.
Bless you Marvel! Should this rumor turn out to be true, then you guys found an awesome way to incorporate the Planet Hulk story-line. I can just picture a Spartacus-like scene in a battle arena where Thor really shows off his fighting skills without his hammer. Also, I really hope the filmmakers decide to dress Hulk up in some battle armor, which would give the big guy some badass style. I think its cool that Banner and Hulk are closer to becoming one. In my opinion, a mindless out-of-control Hulk is only interesting for so long until it becomes dry.
As always, take this rumor with a grain of salt. Marvel could go in a totally different direction. That being said, I really like this direction for the story, and how it involves Hulk. I hope we see some sort-of version of Planet Hulk in the movie, otherwise its a wasted opportunity for a character who likely isn’t getting another solo-film.
How do you guys feel about this rumor and how it ties Planet Hulk into the Ragnarok story-line? Are you okay with Thor being banished once again from Asgard? Let us know your thoughts on this!
