Way back when Ben Affleck was first announced as the new Batman, there was a cry of outrage. “Ben Affleck? The dude that played Daredevil?” While the majority of fans were upset by the decision, I was part of the minority that believed the choice couldn’t have been better (and I have the proof). Yeah sure, Affleck’s career started off a little patchy, but have you seen what he’s done in the last handful of years? I said from the get-go that Affleck has the potential to be the best overall take of the character we’ve ever seen. I can’t tell you how many of my friends, co-workers, and followers were 100% against me, which makes me very interested to see what that’s like now.
But then, then that first image of the Batfleck dropped online and the script was flipped. The excitement for seeing Affleck take on this character started to climb higher and higher, as it now feels like everyone is on Batfleck’s side. But of course, there are still those so-called “haters” out there who will stick by their guns. Some will continue to stick until proven wrong by seeing the movie, and some will always continue to “hate” because, well, fanboys will be fanboys. But, that’s where marketing comes in, to not only give sneak peaks into the movie, but win over more of the movie-going audience. And if you are one of those who is still a bit iffy on Affleck, the following TV spot might be exactly what you’re looking for.
While the first clip from the movie showcased Affleck’s Batman with dialogue we’ve heard through trailer voiceover’s, just with the actual picture this time, the latest TV spot for the movie features Affleck’s Bruce Wayne, in the same format. We’ve heard the words cut together through trailers, but now we get to see the full screen and hot damn it’s a freaking doozy. Check it out below:
If you’ve been following my my coverage on Batman v Superman or listening to our podcasts, you know that I do have hesitations towards the Zack Snyder superhero epic. But, you also know that one of the main reasons why I’m still very much looking forward to it is because I can’t wait to see Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne and most of all, Batman. I’ll say it now, Affleck will give us the greatest performance inside the cape and cowl we’ve ever seen. Not just because of what he can bring to the character, but because he fits this kind of Batman character perfectly. A old, dark, brutal, lonely, grizzled, and a pissed off Batman, and the spot above showcases all of that. If you weren’t excited or looking forward to Batfleck before, you must be at least a little bit now…
The argument as to who is the best Batman up to this point has been between Michael Keaton and Christian Bale, and rightfully so. But, I think it’s safe to say that that argument may be altered in the matter of two months. While you and I and everyone else wait to see if that will in fact be the case, director Zack Snyder has let it be known that the time to choose your side is now. See the announcement video below, which involves some fancy superhero hashtags, as well as the latest poster featuring the world’s finest staring contest. Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman hits theaters in just two months on March 25th, 2016.
