There have definitely been some crazy and outlandish twists on properties through the years, and without a doubt, 2016s title goes to Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. The Jane Austin classic of tangled relationships between lovers from different social classes in the 19th century gets a modern day twist, the good ol’ undead. Yeah, I know what you’re thinking. The title itself is the first sign of how ridiculous it sounds, and really the only sign you need. But in this case, even I must say, I’m quite a bit more interested in PPZ much more than I thought I would be…
While I’m pretty much with everyone else in the fact that zombie flicks are a dime a dozen these days, I still always enjoy a nice little twist on the living dead. While PPZ ins’t much of a twist, it’s still enough to get me interested. I’ve, surprisingly, enjoyed what I’ve seen from it so far. And the premise is actually pretty cool if you think about it, classy and sophisticated 19th century women trained in the arts of slicing and dicing flesh-eating monsters. It also has some strong names attached with Lily James, Lena Headey, Jack Huston, and Charles Dance all having roles. Get a new look at the movie below:
Now I know what you’re still thinking, this guy is looking forward to this? In no way, shape, or form can I argue against you if you think this looks outrageously, dumb. I guess my only response to that would be that some things aren’t for everyone and everything is subjective. But at the same time, I’m not going into it with any kind of expectations, nowhere near a World War Z or something like that. So am I looking forward to it? I sure am. And I’m going in looking for some good ol’ February release type of fun.
A zombie outbreak has fallen upon the land in this reimagining of Jane Austen’s classic tale of the tangled relationships between lovers from different social classes in 19th century England. Feisty heroine Elizabeth Bennet (Lily James) is a master of martial arts and weaponry and the handsome Mr. Darcy (Sam Riley) is a fierce zombie killer, yet the epitome of upper class prejudice. As the zombie outbreak intensifies, they must swallow their pride and join forces on the blood-soaked battlefield in order to conquer the undead once and for all.
Pride and Prejudice and Zombies is released on February 5th, 2016. Directed by Burr Steers starring Lily James, Sam Riley, Bella Heathcote, Suki Waterhouse, Jack Huston, Matt Smith, Douglas Booth, Charles Dance, and Lena Headey.
