It’s Parenthood vs. Sisterhood in the First ‘Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising’ Trailer

Universal has officially released the first trailer for their upcoming comedy sequel Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising. The Nicholas Stoller directed hit was exactly that, a hit. Stepping away from the usual Seth Rogen comedy tropes, Neighbors was a steady pace of ridiculous fun from not only Rogen, but Zac Efron, Dave Franco, and the movies standout Rose Byrne. It was such a success with fans and critics that Universal moved forward with a sequel, bringing back most of the original cast, as well as getting Nicholas Stoller (who is pretty much a comedy genius) to return for his first ever comedy sequel.

While I really enjoyed the first movie, I was part of the minority that didn’t need and see a sequel happening. I felt like the story that they wanted to tell was told, and it couldn’t go any further without repeating many of the same things over. The following trailer has some pretty good moments in it, and it’s fun seeing the original crew of Rogen, Byrne, and Efron return, but much of it feels the same, like something we’ve seen before, which we have.

I’m still very much interested to see how the team approached the follow-up. Seeing Efron team-up with the crew will be a treat, especially after they battled it out in the original. I guess the aspect that myself and everyone else will be wondering is how much fraternity antics vs. sorority antics differ. Will it feel like the same thing when playing out on the screen or will there be new things going on we can get a kick out of?

Now that Mac (Rogen) and Kelly Radner (Byrne) have a second baby on the way, they are ready to make the final move into adulthood: the suburbs. But just as they thought they’d reclaimed the neighborhood and were safe to sell, they learn that the new occupants next door are a sorority even more out of control than Teddy (Efron) and his brothers ever dreamed of being.

Tired of their school’s sexist, restrictive system, the unorthodox ladies of Kappa Nu have decided to start a house where they can do whatever the hell they want. When Shelby (Moretz) and her sisters, Beth (Kiersey Clemons) and Nora (Beanie Feldstein), find the perfect place just off campus, they won’t let the fact that it’s located on a quiet street stand in their way of parties as epic as the guys throw.

Forced to turn to the one ex-neighbor with the skills to bring down the new Greeks next door, the Radners—alongside best friends Jimmy (Ike Barinholtz) and Paula (Carla Gallo)—bring in charismatic Teddy as their secret weapon. If he can infiltrate the sorority and charm his way through it, the thirtysomethings will shutter the Kappas’ home. But if they think that their neighbors are going down without a fight, they have severely underestimated the power of youthful ingenuity and straight-up crazy.

Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising opens May 20th, 2016. Directed by Nicholas Stoller starring Seth Rogen, Zac Efron, Rose Byrne, Chloë Grace Moritz, Selenea Gomez, Dave Franco, Ike Barinholtz, Carla Gallo, Kersey Clemons, and Lisa Kudrow.

    • The trailer was decent… Waiting for that red band trailer that will eventually come, hopefully that one will be more telling. Crossing my fingers it’s in the same boat as the first.
