The Holiday season is all about giving and that’s exactly what many, many films did over the break. Doing a little catch up from a little Holiday hiatus, below you can see a number of new looks at some of 2016s biggest movies.

They include the Matthew McConaughey war drama Free State of Jones, the highly anticipated and long-awaited Pixar sequel Finding Dory, Peter Berg and Mark Wahlberg’s oil rig drama thriller Deepwater Horizon, and Melissa McCarthy’s upcoming comedy The Boss.

Free State of Jones

Release date: May 13th.

The Gary Ross directed film stars Matthew McConaughey as Newt Knight, a poor Mississippi farmer who leads a group of rebels against the Confederate army in the Civil War era. McConaughey has described the film as “a story about America and its relation with the individual and freedom, the period of Reconstruction following the Civil War is still under construction today. Why we were divided by race instead of being united by class didn’t make sense to Newt Knight back then, and it wouldn’t make sense to him today.”

I’m really, really looking forward to this one. Not only am I a total sucker for war-type films, but this specific war-era is what interests me the most. I know nothing about this story and the fact that it’s true is very, very intriguing. It’s one an added bonus when The Hunger Games director is in the chair with a solid cast led by the McConaughey. Also, it was just announced that the first trailer, so look out for that later this week!

Finding Dory

Released date: June 17th.

What is there really to say about this one? It’s a movie we’ve kind of all been wanting for a decade now, to a movie that will go down in the history books. It can be argued that Dory is the most lovable character swimming out of Finding Nemo and now that the sequel is focusing on her, that’s getting a ton of people excited. I’m not hesitant towards watching it at all, I’m just interested to see how this story will hold up for a full-length feature.

As for the image, it shows two of the new characters we’ll see come later this year. Here’s a little information from JoBlo.com: “While visiting a marine-life facility she meets Bailey (Ty Burrell), a snubnosed beluga whale, and Destiny (Kaitlin Olson), a whale shark. The pair will play an important role in Dory’s search and just like Dory, they have their own issues to overcome; Bailey isn’t great with his own sonar capability and Destiny has trouble swimming straight.” It sounds like these three are going to have some great moments together.

Deepwater Horizon

Release date: September 30th.

Following their successful team-up for Lone Survivor, director Peter Perg and star Mark Wahlberg immediately reunited for the true story based Deepwater Horizon. The film tells the story of the real-life Deepwater Horizon oil rig explosion of 2010 which killed 11 workers and is considered to be one of the biggest environmental disasters in U.S. history. It will take us on the rig during the events and capture the actions made by the men as they struggle to survive.

True story based films are always ones that get me. They may not always be good, but I’m always interested in seeing them. I didn’t know much about it back in 2010, but this is one of the more heartbreaking events of the last handful of years. There’s no doubt that it will be hard to watch at times, but the last time Berg and Wahlberg teamed up for a heartbreaking and hard-to-watch story, I walked out fascinated by what I had watched. Here’s to hoping this one has just as much of an impact.

The Boss

Release date: April 8th.

Melissa McCarthy stars as on industry titan who gets locked up after being caught for insider trading. Following her release, she lends a hand to a local Girl Scout group to try to rebrand herself and become’s America’s sweetheart.

You know, I don’t want to come off as harsh, but I’m so tired of Melissa McCarthy’s comedies. They are so beat-by-beat every damn time, it’s starting to get annoying quite frankly. Last yer’s Spy was the surprise, but every other comedy she stars in is just the same thing over and over and over again. So I think it’s safe to say that I’m not looking forward to this one, at all.
