Zac Efron & Seth Rogen Are Rocking Short Shorts in the First Look at ‘Neighbors 2: Sorority Uprising’

Comedy is by far the most difficult genre to be successful at. Everyone loves action and sci-fi and thrillers, but not everyone laughs at the same kind of comedy. Well it’s hard to argue against, but last year’s Neighbors was one of those comedies that hit home with everyone. It got everyone laughing and having total fun in a family vs. frat battle royale. Well, we now have the first look at its sequel.

Although I thoroughly enjoyed the original, I’m part of the minority that didn’t want and is kind of worried for the sequel. Like I said above, comedy is hard to do, but comedy sequels are even harder. There are probably only a handful of sequels that have actually worked, the rest have gone down in serious flames. But until I see it, my mind is open for Neighbors 2.

Universal released the first look image earlier this morning, and it sees stars Zac Efron and Seth Rogen in very similar position when we last saw them, half-naked. They are accompanied by the returning names of Ike Barinholtz, Carla Gallo, and the real star of the original in Rose Byrne. The sequel finds the crew taking on a sorority this time around, which is led by Chloë Grace Moretz and Selena Gomez. Talking about the sorority girls in the film, Byrne tells Entertainment Weekly that’s “it’s like a glimpse into their daughter’s future, and it terrifies them.”

Director Nicholas Stoller has returned to helm the sequel. The same director who crafted a hilarious comedy with so much heart in Forgetting Sarah Marshall is doing his first-ever sequel. So although comedy sequels don’t usually work, I’m interested and pretty eager to see if Stoller can keep the same atmosphere as the original. Here’s to hoping Neighbors 2 is more on the side of 22 Jump Street rather than something like Horrible Bosses 2.

Neighbors 2 opens May 20th, 2016. Directed by Nicholas Stoller starring Seth Rogen, Zac Efron, Rose Byrne, Chloë Grace Moritz, Selenea Gomez, Dave Franco, Ike Barinholtz, Carla Gallo, and Lisa Kudrow.
