It’s been thought of for some time that we’d be seeing the first official trailer for X-Men: Apocalypse with Star Wars: The Force Awakens next week. And while that is still expected to happen, the first trailer is now up online. Following the release of a new poster as a trailer announcement yesterday, 20th Century Fox dropped the debut trailer earlier this morning in all its glory.
Adapting one of the more popular X-Men storylines, director and X-Men savior Bryan Singer is back for Apocalypse after the complete success of Days of Future Past. And because that movies success, the X-Men franchise has never been more exciting. And according to franchise writer and producer Simon Kinberg, Apocalypse will serve as “the culmination of a trilogy” for the main cast first introduced in Matthew Vaughn’s First Class. Featuring many of our old favorites and some new and exciting mutants, watch the first X-Men: Apocalypse trailer below:
It’s a truly epic trailer, in every sense of the word. Most importantly though it that it’s a very well-made trailer, it hits all the beats that a first trailer for this kind of film should. Days of Future Past‘s scale was the largest in this universe so far, but Apocalypse looks like it’s easily going to surpass that. The action displayed looks grand and the characters and their paths taken are very intriguing. The trailer features a massive amount of great looks at new additions such as younger Jean Grey, Storm, Cyclops, and Nightcrawler as well as Psylocke and Archangel.
But one of the cooler things that stood out to me is the role Jennifer Lawrence’s Mystique is in this time around. It’s exciting to see her character taking a leadership role; following the event of Days of Future Past, it’s cool to see them taking advantage of the new timeline created where she isn’t a villain. That is just one of the many badass things going in the trailer. I’ll be collecting as many screenshots as possible for the trailer and posting them later on, stay tune for that a little later on.
Since the dawn of civilization, he was worshiped as a god. Apocalypse, the first and most powerful mutant from Marvel’s X-Men universe, amassed the powers of many other mutants, becoming immortal and invincible. Upon awakening after thousands of years, he is disillusioned with the world as he finds it and recruits a team of powerful mutants, including a disheartened Magneto (Michael Fassbender), to cleanse mankind and create a new world order, over which he will reign. As the fate of the Earth hangs in the balance, Raven (Jennifer Lawrence) with the help of Professor X (James McAvoy) must lead a team of young X-Men to stop their greatest nemesis and save mankind from complete destruction.
