I’ll be the first to admit that last year’s long-awaited live-action reboot Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was a bit more entertaining, fun and just better than what I thought it would be. It wasn’t the best attempt at what a Turtles movie could be, but it was a step in the right direction. It did get me to want to see more of these Turtles on the big screen, which is why I was happy a sequel was moving forward.
Fast forward to now and with a couple of key character additions from the Turtles history, the sequel is now in post-production getting ready for its rock-solid summer release date. I’m not sure about you guys, but I wasn’t really expecting to see a trailer for the sequel until the new year rolled around, around the time of the release of Paramount and Michael Bay’s other film 13 Hours. But hey, I’m not complaining. Check out the first kinda sorta awesome (not sure if I like saying that yet or not) trailer for the freshly titled Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows below:
Like I said above, I actually and surprisingly has quite a bit of fun with the trailer. It definitely follows the suit of the original, but with a little bit more flare around this time because of the progression the Turtles have made, mainly being that now they are out in the open ass-kickers. That’s going to be interesting to see, how they are perceived and how they operate in the public following the events of the first movie. I mean, they are freaking giant mutated turtles with insane ninja skills, am I right?
Going back to something the original did very well and how this trailer built off of it, the relationship between the brothers. There were just snip-its in the trailer, but that was definitely one of the highlights of the original. Just like the title says, they are just teenagers and it’s pretty fun to see how these dudes operate, on-and-off the streets.
And of course, the trailer can’t be talked about without mentioning the additions of some key characters; Casey Jones, Bebop and Rocksteady. I’ve got to start with Casey Jones because of Stephen Amell. I’m a HUGE fan of his hit show Arrow, have been from the get go and I couldn’t be happier for the guy. Not only is he a fantastic actor who has a big future on the small and big screen, but they couldn’t have casted someone better for Jones. He may not be the ideal look, no, but they casted a dude who is playing a superhero for the role! How can it be any better? And just from the trailer, he looks on so much point. Casey Jones is one of my favorite parts of this universe and to see him brought to life in the movie and by Amell, I’m so stoked to see his introduction and the arc he’s given throughout the movie. I’m really looking forward to see him team-up with the Turtles and the outrageously beautiful Megan Fox as April O’Neill. As for Bebop and Rocksteady, yeah sure, they look cool I guess. I just need to see more of them to get an overall feeling on their looks, there wasn’t enough for me in the trailer.
