Recent years may have superheroes and now Star Wars dominating everything movies, but don’t count out a franchise such as Planet of the Apes. Rupert Wyatt rebooted the franchise in a pleasantly surprising fashion with Rise of the Planet of the Apes, and Matt Reeves took the franchise to phenomenal new heights with Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. With Reeves returning to direct the threequel, there is now some serious buzz revolving around this franchise.
Other than a few casting announcements and a first look at the beginning of its production, we’ve heard little on War for the Planet of the Apes to this point. But that looks like that may be changing as director Matt Reeves has given us a little tease, while teasing another special announcement at the same time.
Reeves took to his twitter to not only unveil the official log for his film, but let fans of the franchise know to make sure to tune into tomorrow’s episode of The Walking Dead on AMC. He says, “for a special #WarForTheApes announcement…” But what could it be? Could it just be a short statement by Reeves himself? Maybe a trailer announcement? My bet is on the latter, which would include just a tad bit of footage to get our blood pumping for the first teaser trailer. Here’s Reeves tweet:
It seems like every major studio is turning things up a bit lately to try and get their major upcoming films attached to Star Wars: The Force Awakens next month. With Fox already having attached the first trailer for X-Men: Apocalypse, could they be pulling out all the stops to get War for the Planet of the Apes on that monstrous train as well? It’s a big possibility and would be a damn smart move on their part.
On a side note, just think of what that line-up could be before The Force Awakens even starts… Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, Captain America: Civil War, X-Men: Apocalypse, and now the possibility of War for the Planet of the Apes? What an insanely glorious night it would be…
War for the Planet of the Apes has a July 17th, 2017 release date. Directed by Matt Reeves starring Andy Serkis, Woody Harrelson, Judy Greer, and Steve Zahn.
