Ant-Man was arguably one of the most enjoyable surprises of the summer. Following all the issues it had a year prior, I’d say it was a complete success. But what else have we really come to expect from Marvel? Anyway, back to Ant-Man.
I’m not sure you’re feeling towards the films, but I enjoyed the hell out of it. From the fantastic casting to to perfect comedy to the smaller more personal story, it’s definitely one of my favorites of the year. Don’t worry, I’m not going to review the whole movie. I’m actually going to talk about one specific scene. And yes, from the headline, you know exactly what I’m talking about.
For comic book readers life myself, although we were completely wrapped up in the awesomeness going on in the film, it’s final moments that thrilled us as much as any other scene in the movie. It may have been rumored and speculated by many, but it was never leaked or ever actually confirmed by anyone, which made the moment that much sweeter. As we were watching the events unfold, for those of us who know the comic book background, the question was always in the back of our mind. Is Hope Van Dyne going to become the Wasp? Is she going to take up the mantle alongside Scott Lang’s Ant-Man? Well, we got our answer in one of Marvel’s best post-credit scenes in a long time. It was something that got the nergasm flowing in many fans, and now, that scene has been officially released by Marvel (F YES):
“It’s about damn time.”
I can’t tell you how long I’ve waited to see this moment. Don’t get me wrong, I was surprised and absolutely loved the fantastic sequence of seeing Hank Pym’s Ant-Man and the original Wasp take flight together during the film, but this moment was it for me. I’ve been a huge fan of Evangeline Lilly for a very long time and when her casting was announced, there was always a part of me that knew what was coming. But because of no official word or anything, I was still hesitant that maybe they wouldn’t go through with it. But of course, Marvel has done it again and drops this kind of scene on us.
Even so, we still wondered how the character would fit into everything. Well, Marvel did what they do best and dropped that amazing title for the Ant-Man sequel on us, confirming that Evangeline Lilly, Hope Van Dyne and the new Wasp are here to stay in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And let me just say, it’s an incredible move by Marvel. Wasp is one of my favorite comic book characters and to finally see her being brought to the big screen by a perfect actress for the role in Evangeline Lilly, huge. Ant-Man and the Wasp is shaping up to be one of the more exciting Marvel films in the next few years.
Ant-Man is released on Blu-ray and DVD on December 8th, 2015.
