Lee Daniels’ upcoming Richard Pryor biopic has slowly been putting together a stellar cast. The studio has just added actor/comedian Tracy Morgan (30 Rock) in a supporting role. Morgan will play Redd Foxx, a comedian who owned a local comedy club, and later starred in a hit TV sitcom. Foxx was the one responsible for giving Pryor his start as a comedian, by using him in his opening acts.
Tracy Morgan immediately expressed his excitement and humbleness to be apart of such an important project, and to play an icon…
“Mr. Foxx, I hope I do you justice!” said Morgan in a statement. “It will be an honor to portray an icon.” (The Hollywood Reporter)
This is a huge opportunity for Morgan to show us what he can do in this drama biopic. He’ll no doubt bring his comedic touch to the role, but having a director like Daniels makes the possibility of seeing a different side of Morgan all the more exciting.
Morgan joins an already inspiring cast in Mike Epps (as Richard Pryor), Kate Hudson (as Pryor’s wife Jennifer), and Oprah Winfrey (as Pryor’s grandmother), with Eddie Murphy and Taraji P. Henson as Pryor’s parents.
