Rocky Balboa will return to the big screen later this month in Creed. But before the franchise’s passing of the torch takes place, lets revisit a moment in Rocky history.
Rocky had many great fights during his career, but his most deadliest fight was against Ivan Drago. The fight took place during a time of tension between The Soviet Union and U.S.A. While many viewed it as a must-see boxing match, for Balboa it meant so much more. Balboa proved victorious and got personal redemption, but I don’t think anybody anticipated what would happen afterwards…
Rocky IV may be just a movie however, for me the character of Rocky Balboa is much more. He is someone that inspires and motivates others. The folks at College Humor feel the same, and dedicated their next 30 for 30 parody video on if Rocky’s fight against Drago were real.
For those who aren’t familiar, ESPN’s 30 for 30 is a documentary series on some of sports’ biggest moments in history. The video below combines footage of the actual film, with interviews from ESPN’s Max Kellerman and historian Philip Wismer. I found it to be quite funny, especially how it manages to present some interesting questions about the fight. If you’re a fan of the Rocky films, then definitely check this out. You will not be disappointed.
Creed hits theaters on November 25, 2015.
