Lionsgate has released the first trailer for their upcoming (expected R-rated) comedy Dirty Grandpa. Starring Robert De Niro as Zac Efron’s grandfather, the film chronicles a road trip between grandpa and grandson, as they end up in Florida for Spring Break.
Although it’s titled Dirty Grandpa, there was still a little bit of hesitation about just how dirty the film will go. Those thoughts are all tossed aside as this first trailer shows us that they’re not going to hold back on the raunchy and they’re going to give us all we can handle. And with someone like Robert De Niro leading the film alongside a much improved Zac Efron, that’s what I want to see. De Niro is known for being a award-caliber actor, and seeing him take on a lighter and little bit more crazy role like this one is quite a bit of fun to see. Decided for yourself below:
Not a bad first trailer, right? It wasn’t great or extremely funny, but it did just enough to peak my interest for sure. Like I said above, the most intriguing thing going for it right now it the back-and-forth between De Niro and Efron. We’ve seen Efron in a comedy role like this with Neighbors, but to see him play off of De Niro and the sort of comedy chops he has is something pretty exciting. And although its January release date does get me a little nervous, it also has me looking forward to because it’s the perfect counter-programming following the heavy Oscar season of late 2015.
Here’s the films official synopsis, followed by the teaser poster:
A lascivious, recently widowed Army veteran tricks his uptight grandson into escorting him to Florida for spring break.
