‘Power Rangers’ Reboot Finds Its Pink Ranger

Naomi Scott

Lionsgate has cast its first ranger for the upcoming Power Rangers reboot. Naomi Scott will get the first lead role of her young career as The Pink Ranger.

I can’t say much about the casting, only because I’ve yet to see what she can do. Looking at her IMDB page, she’s made some pretty smart choices. Even if they’re small roles, films like The Martian and the upcoming true story drama The 33 are the right projects for any young actress. And now she’s the new Pink Ranger.

Expect Lionsgate to make more casting announcements featuring more unknowns (which I’m fine with) for this reboot. Dean Israelite (Project Almanac) will direct, with a script that’s being described as “mature, yet playful“.

Here’s a rumored character description of The Pink Ranger (courtesy of Collider).

Kimberly – 17 years old, unconventionally cool all in a way the popular girls wish they were. In fact, she was one of those girls, but isn’t anymore. Not since she’s returned to school after an absence of 6 months. Rumors are flying as to why; rumors she seems not to care about, because she’s come back with this new rebel-without-a-cause, edgy attitude. But the truth is, it’s all masking a deep secret that makes her feel profoundly vulnerable.

What’s your reaction to this cast? Can she live up to what Amy Jo Johnson did for the character?
