Bourne 5 is actually happening with Matt Damon returning, and we have our first photo to prove it.
Producer Frank Marshall tweeted the photo in celebration of the completion of the first day for principal photography. The photo doesn’t say much about the largely unknown story. Bourne has been keeping himself in shape clearly, probably to stay prepared for the next threat. That threat could be from the recently cast Vincent Cassel (Black Swan), who is presumed to be the main villain.
What we do know is the film will explore espionage and politics in a post-Snowden world, which for me sounds like a great story for a Damon/Paul Greengrass reunion. Also, Damon has previously revealed the film will start in Greece and end in Las Vegas.
Here’s the latest comment on the story from Damon (via. Collider).
“Without giving too much of it away, it’s Bourne through an austerity-riddled Europe and in a post-Snowden world,” Damon said. “It seems like enough has changed, you know? There are all these kinds of arguments about spying and civil liberties and the nature of democracy.”
How excited are you for Bourne 5, and are you hoping there will be an Aaron Cross reference?
Bourne 5 opens July 29, 2016. The film also stars Alicia Vikander, Julia Stiles, and Tommy Lee Jones.
