The First Trailer & Poster for ‘Concussion’ Pits Will Smith Against the NFL

Concussions and the NFL is one damn hot topic these days. One of the most controversial topics in sports today has gone through many revelations through the last few years, with the latest being turned into a movie. The film comes from director Peter Landesman (Parkland) and stars Will Smith as Dr. Bennet Omalu, a genius doctor who first discovered the football related injury called CTE. Check out the debut trailer and poster for Concussion below.

Will Smith stars in Concussion, a dramatic thriller based on the incredible true David vs. Goliath story of American immigrant Dr. Bennet Omalu, the brilliant forensic neuropathologist who made the first discovery of CTE, a football-related brain trauma, in a pro player and fought for the truth to be known. Omalu’s emotional quest puts him at dangerous odds with one of the most powerful institutions in the world.

As I said above, the film brings to light one of the most controversial sport topics of today. Not only have fifteen year NFL veterans been treated for head traumas, but current players with just a handful of years 'Concussion' Teaser Posterunder their belt are now retiring due to the kind of risk the contact from the game brings – which has only brought it even more into the spotlight.

As for the trailer, it’s some pretty interesting stuff. As an athlete myself, it easily appeals to me because of the type of story it is. It is based on a very true story and looks to portray what happened pretty true. Obviously, none of us will truly never know what actually happened between Omalu and the NFL, but we will get a little taste with Concussion. And with someone like Will Smith in the role, it’s definitely going to attract a ton of people. As for how good Smith looks, the performance looks stellar. His accent is on point and this is the exact kind of juicy role I love seeing Smith sink his teeth into.

The only issue I have so far is that I’m afraid that turning a story like this into a film will just blow what actually happened out of proportion. I don’t need insane drama or it to even make me think that the NFL is the bad guy, I just want to know what really went down. It felt a bit odd to me that the NFL almost felt like the FBI or CIA, with blacked out cars following certain characters and all. I’m not saying that didn’t happen, but it just feels out of place within a story about the NFL and head trauma injuries.

Concussion will be released on December 25th, 2015. Directed by Peter Landesman starring Will Smith,  Alec Baldwin, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Luke Wilson, Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Albert Brooks.
