Fans of Man of Steel have been wondering when exactly a sequel will happen. Originally, a sequel was scheduled to follow, with Zack Snyder returning as director. However, discussions during staff meeting turned the project into what’s now a Batman V Superman film. Along with BvS, we know that Snyder will direct Justice League: Part One and Two. This leaves the director’s chair vacant for Man of Steel 2, and the replacement for Snyder just might be an upgrade.
Jon Schnepp (The Death of Superman Lives: What Happened?) has broke the news during a recent podcast that Mad Max :Fury Road director George Miller will direct Man of Steel 2.
George Miller is doing Man of Steel 2. I don’t feel weird about breaking it. Obviously Zack Snyder is doing Justice League one and two, James Wan is doing Aquaman. … I think George Miller’s a perfect choice to do Man of Steel 2. He’s going to bring so much to it.
Until confirmation of the news comes from the studio or Miller himself, its still just a rumor. However, I’m going to buy that this will happen for several reasons. Those of you who aren’t aware, Miller was almost going to direct a Justice League film back in ’07 but it fell apart by ’09. Miller clearly has an interest in this universe, and with these characters.
Schnepp as a director also has close ties with several Hollywood officials. He’s not the type of guy who would break news unless it was actually happening. Finally, you have to look at what Miller did with Mad Max: Fury Road. Its one of the best action films since the new millennium, also with brilliant story telling and performances. Miller brings a unique style of film making, one that doesn’t require too much usage of visual effects, which is very much present in Man of Steel.
I seriously hope this happens, and Man of Steel fans should too. I think George Miller would elevate this film to another level. Do you agree?
