Rumor Central: ‘Captain America: Civil War’ Trailer Description from D23 Expo (UPDATED)

Marvel is expected to make an appearance at the D23 Expo early Saturday morning (TODAY). Movie news sites everywhere are anticipating the studio to reveal some new footage for the upcoming Captain America: Civil War, perhaps in the form of a trailer. We’ll soon know whether or not that’ll actually happen, but Marvel’s absence at this year’s Comic Con makes it a high possibility.

Some user on Reddit (a site known to be hit or miss as far as leaking movie stuff) has revealed a description of a possible trailer for Civil War. This trailer is presumed to be shown at Marvel’s panel to those in attendance. Heroic Hollywood’s very own Umberto Gonzalez has found some similarities regarding the trailer to a tip he received a few months back. I have that description here for you now.

The footage begins with General Thunderbolt Ross taking about registration act. It then cuts to a military team repelling down a building. We see a snowy forest. We see someone’s arm being injected (Registration). Close ups of Black Widow, Hawkeye and Scarlet Witch. War Machine Fighting Wanda (Maximoff). General Ross says “You either sign yourself over or this is your last stand!” We hear Captain America say “We won’t stand for this!” Then Iron Man says “Then let’s fight! We see a skyscraper explode. Captain America and Iron Man fight in a baseball field. We see Bucky hanging onto a helicopter. Black Widow and Falcon fighting. We see Black Panther fight Captain America. Close up of Crossbones. We see a closeup of someone’s legs walking (Baron Zemo) “You think your world can survive?” Says Zemo “Let’s Find Out” says Spider-Man. We see a close up of Spider-Man fighting Baron Zemo (FAST FIGHTING MONTAGE). Vision destroys a helicopter. Hawkeye zip lining between buildings. Ant-Man punches Vision. We see Crossbones and Captain America fight. “Everything you fought for will come crumbling down” says General Ross. We see Martin Freemans character driving a car. Iron Man shoots Captain America. We see Spider-Man swinging through buildings (it’s ever so brief but it looks like the suit will In fact be blue and red not black). Iron Man Punches Captain America Shield. Cuts to the logo Captain America: Civil War.

Do take this description with a huge grain of salt, but go with it for just a second. There’s certainly a lot of things going on in this first trailer.

Hearing General Ross speak throughout the trailer in certainly feasible, as he plays a crucial role in this film. However, I wouldn’t expect Spider-Man to be so heavily featured in the first trailer. I’d rather them save him for the final trailer or something. Black Panther fighting Cap makes sense, since Cap is protecting Bucky from multiple parties including Panther.

There are things that make sense and there are things that don’t in this description. I won’t dive too deep until I know what’s actual and what isn’t. We might know soon enough come later today.

How much of this trailer description do you buy, if any?

UPDATE: I guess Reddit user was way off. Some footage for Civil War has premiered at D23 Expo earlier today, and here’s a description from both Variety and The Wrap.

“The action-packed footage positioned Evans’ Steve Rogers/Captain America and his team of Avengers (including Black Widow/Natasha Romanoff, Falcon/Sam Wilson and Scarlet Witch/Wanda Maximoff) against Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man and Don Cheadle’s War Machine, with Avenger pitted against Avenger in a brutal battle near the end of the trailer. “Are we still friends?” Scarlett Johansson’s Natasha Romanoff asks Renner’s Clint Barton at one point during the brawl. “Depends how hard you hit me,” Clint quips.

The disagreement between the former allies seems to stem from a speech delivered by William Hurt’s General “Thunderbolt” Ross, who tells Steve, “The world owes you an unpayable debt — a great many people see you as a hero, but there are some who prefer the word vigilante. People are afraid.”

In one scene, Downey’s Tony Stark tells Evans’ Steve, “Sometimes I wanna punch you in your perfect teeth.” In a turnaround from “Age of Ultron,” Tony seems to be arguing for more accountability from the superheroes.

The footage also showed Frank Grillo in costume as the villainous Crossbones during a brutal fight with Cap, with Crossbones tossing Cap against cars and gloating about Steve’s former friend Bucky (Sebastian Stan). “He remembered you, you know — your pal, your buddy, your Bucky.” The trailer delivered on the promise of “Captain America: Winter Soldier” and the stinger at the end of “Ant-Man,” showing Bucky shedding his Winter Solider programming to join forces with Cap in the fight against Iron Man. ”

— Variety

“In the “Civil War” trailer, we see the Falcon deploy his trusty Redwing and then team up with Captain American and Black Widow to fight Frank Grillo’s Crossbones, who tells Cap that “he remembered you. Your pal, your buddy, your Bucky.”

We hear William Hurt’s General Thunderbolt from “The Incredible Hulk” say, “the world owes you an unpayable debt” but soon after, he says that people are afraid of superheroes and questions whether they are actually vigilantes.

There’s a funeral glimpsed before Tony Stark shows up to throw down with Cap, and as Black Widow fights Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye, she asks him, “we’re still friends, right?” The footage ended with Ant-Man waking up from a nap to marvel over meeting Captain America. “I know you know a lot of super people so thanks for thanking of me. Er, thanks for thinking of me,” jokes Scott Lang.”
