Andrew Garfield Finally Talks New Spider-Man Casting

When the news first broke regarding Sony leaving behind Andrew Garfield for a younger Peter Parker/Spider-Man, I was very upset. I think we can all agree that out of the many problems with The Amazing Spider-Man 2 that Garfield was not the problem. I also found him to be the better of the two portrayals we’ve had so far (the other being Tobey Maguire).

Tom Holland’s casting as the new Spidey in the M.C.U. was universally accepted due to the confidence we all have in one Kevin Feige. One person we really haven’t heard from is Garfield, who’s been very passionate about the character since day one of his turn as the web-slinger.

In his first red carpet appearance in over a year, Garfield spoke with ET over Holland’s casting.

“It feels lovely, especially because Tom Holland is a really, really great actor. He was in this movie The Impossible and he was just this incredibly powerful, sensitive, just wonderful young actor. And [he’s] a dancer, so his body’s the right [form].”

“I’m just really excited to just be a fan again as opposed to bearing the weight of it.”

Here’s Garfield’s endorsement for this new Spider-Man, just in case anyone was curious at what he had to say. I like that he was very respectful and classy after Sony ruined his efforts and had to start over. Many of you already know where I stand on this matter. Holland is a good choice, and it’ll be cool to see Spidey finally be in the M.C.U.

As for Garfield, the actor has matured so much since The Social Network. His upcoming film, Silence, directed by Martin Scorsese will be a must see later this year. After that, the actor will appear in Mel Gibson’s World War II directorial, Hacksaw Ridge.
