Who saw the monstrosity of Jurassic World coming? I knew that it would be a killer with the fans, but nobody (if you say you did, you lie) saw the box-office domination coming. Ever since its insane opening weekend, it’s been chugging along at a solid pace and has now passed Marvel’s The Avengers as the third highest grossing film of all-time, and man is it well deserved!
So how does Universal celebrate the occasion? By giving fans what they want, a sequel! Universal has just announcer that a Jurassic World sequel will be stomping into theaters on June 22nd, 2018. Not only that, but Jurassic World headliners Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard will be returning (HELL YES)!
It comes to no surprise that a sequel has been announced. The film did really well with critics and fans, yes, but we all know that Hollywood runs on the money. So even after its opening weekend, it was almost a given that Universal was going to highly consider a sequel. It may not be better then the glorious Jurassic Park, but it’s now the franchises leading cash getter. And unlike The Lost World, this sequel doesn’t have to worry about finding another lead character or storyline. Not only will Jurassic World stars Pratt and Howard be returning, but the final act of the film quietly set up a sequel with Dr. Henry Wu, who took a wild turn between Park and World, escaping with the remaining hybrid Dinosaur embryos.
The only difference (so far) that the sequel will see is that Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow won’t be returning to the director’s chair, instead just taking up the writing duties with Derek Connolly (who co-wrote Jurassic World). Trevorrow did state during the press tour that he didn’t want to direct a possible sequel, instead see someone else’s take on it. But I am glad to see that he will be co-writing the sequel because I really loved what he did with World and would hate to not see where he thinks it should go next if he wasn’t writing it.

I’m pretty damn happy with the news. It was expected yeah, but it’s really cool to get the official word. The next step is to see which director they get to helm the sequel and that will give us some insight into what we’ll get. But like I said above, it’s awesome to see Pratt and Howard returning, as well as Trevorrow staying on board as writer and executive producer.
Here’s the official press release from Universal Pictures:
Executive producer Steven Spielberg and stars Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard return for Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment’s JURASSIC WORLD SEQUEL, a follow-up to one of the biggest blockbusters in the history of cinema. Producer Frank Marshall once again joins Spielberg in leading the team of filmmakers for the next chapter in the franchise. The film will be written by Jurassic World’s director, Colin Trevorrow, and Derek Connolly. Spielberg will be joined by Trevorrow as executive producer.
So what do you think of the news guys? Like it or not? What do you want to see in a sequel? Global chase adventure? Even bigger and crazier dinosaurs? Shoot off in the comments!
