First Look: Paul Feig Reveals the New ‘Ghostbusters’ Costumes & Proton Packs

Being directed by comedy regular Paul Feig, the rebooted sequel Ghostbusters is taking the female approach and continuing the mythology with the ladies. Starring Melissa McCarthy and Kristen Wiig, who are both well known for their comedic chops, will be joined by Saturday Night Live cast members Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones.

It officially began production early last week and instead of it being leaked online somewhere, directed Paul Feig decided to beat everyone to the punch and reveal the updated versions of both the Ghostbusters look and equipment. Check them out below:

Both pay great respect to the looks worn by the original Ghostbusters, but are definitely given an update to separate themselves. I like the orange stripes going on on the costumes and and looking forward to these four ladies suiting up to take down some supernatural beings.

Speaking of suiting up, for those who don’t know what a ‘proton pack’ is, here’s a great little summary by fellow website JoBlo:

“These bad boys are (in case you’ve forgotten) backpack-sized particle accelerators that are capable of firing a stream of protons that polarizes the negatively charged energy of a ghost, allowing it to be held in the stream.”

Just as the costumes, the pack itself looks very similar to the original but with a little update. Hopefully these proton packs will be a little easier to carry for the ladies.

Sony and Feig have gotten a lot of flack from fans by bringing in women to portray these character for these new movies. That’s obviously going to happen because of how loved the original movies are, but a women only ghost busting team with a male (Chris Hemsworth) receptionist this time around should make for a different kind of but still good time. Even after Spy, I’m still not a fan on McCarthy leading this group, but I like the pieces brought in around her, especially the talent from SNL.

I’m looking forward to seeing more on the new Ghostbusters as filming continues and its release gets closer. What about you? Are you excited or just interested in it? What do you think of the new costumes and proton packs?

Ghostbusters shoots into theaters on July 22nd, 2016. Being directed by Paul Feig starring Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones, and Chris Hemsworth.
