All the speculation revolving around the official title for Star Trek 3 can be an entire discussion all on its own. But through all of that, one title has always been there: Star Trek Beyond. It always made the most sense because not only does the word beyond fit with how Star Trek Into Darkness ended with the Enterprise crew going on their five-year adventure, but it just sounds Star Trek-y.
So everything so far has pointed towards this being the title for the threequel, and now it seems we’ve gotten official confirmation. Filming seems to have begun on the next chapter into this Star Trek franchise and Justin Lin, who’s taking over for J.J. Abrams, just tweeted out the first teaser image from the set, with what seems to be a title confirmation for us fans.

As you can see from Lin’s tweet, it’s now pretty much a guarantee that the threequel has the official title of Star Trek Beyond. And just as I said above, it sounds like a Star Trek title and just fits. Just as its predecessor did, a shorter title that gives us a slight tease into what we’ll see. With Beyond obviously pointing at the Enterprise crew venturing out to many other worlds.
I have become a big fan of these Star Trek movies. J.J. Abrams did an amazing job giving everyone a fresh and new take on this beloved franchise, while also keeping the nostalgia set from the originals. They still aren’t on a level of say Star Wars, but they are some really fun movies and I look forward to seeing many more.
In other news, it’s also been reported that both Chris Pine (James T. Kirk) and Zachary Quinto (Spock) are signed through Star Trek 4, which is very excited news. Justin Lin and company still have to prove themselves with Star Trek Beyond, but don’t expect to see this franchise go away any time soon. If Paramount Pictures do these right, this franchise can stick around for many years to come.
Star Trek Beyond has a July 8th, 2016 release date. Being directed by Justin Lin starring Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Simon Pegg, Karl Urban, Anton Yelchin, John Cho, Sofia Boutella, and Idris Elba rumored for the villain role.
