Tyrese Gibson posted some interesting fan art earlier today and a few days ago. Its no surprise considering rumors involving DC’s possible direction for Green Lantern, along with casting rumors have been the story this week (3rd blog post this week on G.L.)
The actor/singer has been lobbying for the role of Jon Stewart (black ex-Marine who becomes the Lantern) ever since fans created the idea. So finally Entertainment Weekly got the chance to talk to Gibson, asking him what this social media blitz is all about…
Gibson: “There are certain things I can’t speak on. But I will say, however this works out, it’s definitely the fans’ fault. I was at home minding my own business and fans start creating these fan-made videos of me as Green Lantern and I looked into it. I’ve been a fan of the Green Lantern. I took the oath, and I had a meeting at Warner Bros. and certain things were said and talked about. We’ll just see what happens.”
As I stated in the previous blog post concerning the Chris Pine as Hal Jordan rumor, I don’t think Gibson is the right fit. Now he’s certainly capable of playing the role of a harden ex-Marine, as we’ve seen in films like Annapolis and Transformers.
Looks like he might have heard my comments along with many others, and had this to say…
Gibson: “Listen, these muscles are here and they’re ready to be used. There are lot of people, domestically and internationally, who’s got love with your boy. I’m coming into this thing with some fans and some box office receipts behind my name and I say that proudly and humbly. I just think I deserve a shot at suiting up and becoming the Green Lantern.”

……. Okay. You brought up some interesting points and I’ll bite, therefore, hopefully Warner Bros gives you a shot Tyrese. I’m willing to see what you can bring, but that doesn’t mean I have confidence should you be cast. Well know more (hopefully) when Comic Con arrives next month.
Green Lantern is scheduled to release on June 19, 2020
