First Look: Gerard Butler Taking Names in ‘London Has Fallen’

A few years ago we were given two disaster movies based around the White House, and even though I did enjoy Channing Tatum’s White House Down, I thought Olympus Has Fallen starring Gerard Butler was more of a fun time. It didn’t do amazing at the box office or with reviews, but it did enough to where a sequel was put in the works. Now was I wanting one? Not really, but I’m in for another action filled popcorn flick.

It seems we could be seeing the first full length trailer her pretty soon as the first official image for London Has Fallen has been released. And just as we expected, it features Gerard Butler back as badass Mike Banning doing what he does best, kicking ass.

Gerard Butler in 'London Has Fallen'

London Has Fallen will go a little something like this:

The story begins in London, where the British Prime Minister has passed away under mysterious circumstances. His funeral is a must-attend event for leaders of the western world. However, what starts out as the most protected event on Earth turns into a deadly plot to kill the world’s most powerful leaders, devastate every known landmark in the British capital, and unleash a terrifying vision of the future. Only three people have any hope of stopping it: the President of the United States, his formidable Secret Service head (Gerard Butler), and an English MI-6 agent who rightly trusts no one.

Remember back when 300 was in theaters and Gerard Butler was being pinned as Hollywood’s next big action star? Then he stepped into a few rom-com’s and that talk kind of just disappeared? Well Olympus Has Fallen clearly showed that this dude still has it and I really don’t understand why he isn’t being sought out for more action movies. Maybe it’s his choice, but I love seeing this guy on screen in an action role like this one and even though it’s being released in January of next year, I’m still looking forward to it and hoping it’s a lot of fun like the first one.

London Has Fallen hits theaters January 22nd, 2016. Directed by Babak Najafi starring Gerard Butler, Aaron Eckhart, Angela Bassett, Melissa Leo, Jackie Earle Haley, Robert Forster, and Morgan Freeman.
