Faith, redemption, and survival. Based on true events, Captive tells the story of a single mother and recovering drug addict who is taken hostage by a murdering prison escapee. She then turns to her personal journey of faith and redemption to survive, while trying to save her capture at the same time. Starring David Oyelowo and Kate Mara, see the first trailer and poster below.
First off, here’s the official synopsis:
The true story of Ashley Smith (Mara), a single mother and recovering drug addict who was taken hostage in her own apartment by fugitive, murderer and accused rapist Brian Nichols (Oyelowo). With her back against the wall, Smith turned to the personal spiritual journey of Rick Warren’s best-selling book The Purpose Driven Life in an attempt to survive and help Brian find a better way out.
With names like Oyelowo and Mara leading, this is the kind of trailer you’d expect to see. I didn’t LOVE it, but I like what I see for sure. It looks like it can end up being a good, tense, and thrilling film; plus it is always intriguing to see a good redemption story.
Captive hits theaters September 18th, 2015. Directed by Jerry Jameson starring David Oyelowo, Kate Mara, Leonor Varela, Jessica Oyelowo, Mimi Rogers, and Michael K. Williams.
