Ethan Hawke & Emma Watson Star in the First Trailer for the Mystery/Thriller ‘Regression’

Below you can see the first full-length (and english version) trailer for Regression, a mystery/thriller starring the likes of Ethan Hawke and Emma Watson. Watson plays a young girl who accuses her father of a so-called “unspeakable crime”, with Hawke in the role of the Detective investigating the case.

Here’s the full synopsis, followed by the first trailer:

Minnesota, 1990. Detective Bruce Kenner (Ethan Hawke) investigates the case of young Angela (Emma Watson), who accuses her father, John Gray (David Dencik), of an unspeakable crime. When John unexpectedly and without recollection admits guilt, renowned psychologist Dr. Raines (David Thewlis) is brought in to help him relive his memories and what they discover unmasks a horrifying nationwide mystery.

Despite what the trailer looks and feels like, this is no horror movie. For some odd reason it geared more towards the horror genre then the mystery/thriller that it is. I’m sure it will have some kind of spooky moments, all mystery/thrillers do, but it isn’t the horror movie it seems to be.

That being said, I did like the dark and creepy tone of the trailer. The horror play definitely threw me off a bit, but I like what I see so far. Ethan Hawke is such a great choice for this specific role, he’s done it in the past and it’s worked out very well. And as for Emma Watson, her career following Harry Potter has been stellar, she’s made some damn good decisions and I’m excited to see her continue that trend.

Here’s the newly released teaser poster as well:
