‘London Has Fallen’ Moves Its October 2015 Release to January 2016

Well I can’t say I was expecting this. Focus Features has moved the release date for London Has Fallen from this fall to next January. The Hollywood Reporter broke the news, but there’s no word as to why the move.

Its not uncommon for a studio to suddenly move a blockbuster flick from summer or fall to January, but its usually a sign of trouble from the studio. January has been known as the month where studio dump projects they no longer have confidence in. Although this year has proven otherwise with films like American Sniper, Taken 3, and The Wedding Ringer proving to be financial successes. So it could be that Focus Features is trying to replicate the success with a known property.

I enjoyed the 2013 film Olympus Has Fallen. It wasn’t the most original film, but it was action packed with a great cast. I’m still looking forward to this sequel, while hoping this move is just a strategy to make a bigger profit.

London Has Fallen sees the return of Gerald Butler, Morgan Freeman, Aaron Eckhart, and Angela Bassett. They are joined by newcomers Jackie Earle Haley, Robert Forester, and Melissa Leo. The film now opens on January 22, 2016. The synopsis below comes from IMDB.

After the British Prime Minister has passed away under mysterious circumstances, all leaders of the Western world must attend his funeral. But what starts out as the most protected event on earth, turns into a deadly plot to kill the world’s most powerful leaders and unleash a terrifying vision of the future. The President of the United States, his formidable secret service head and an English MI-6 agent who trusts no one are the only people that have any hope of stopping it.
