Today’s rumor of the day is another huge one regarding Marvel Studios. Yesterday’s rumor was in regards to Captain Marvel, and how it might involve Angelina Jolie and Charlize Theron. That film is due out in 2018, and for now all eyes are on this summer’s Ant-Man, which will close out the Phase Two films for Marvel.
Latino Review is reporting that Ant-Man will be the first film to reference the Spider-Man character. According to the report, there will be plenty of nods to Spidey and Oscorp. One of those nods is an hypothesis that the antagonist Darren Cross (Corey Stoll) will attempt to sell the Yellowjacket weapon suit to Oscorp. As we’ve seen in the trailers, Cross is a wealthy and powerful man, who is all about business.
So how was Marvel able to include references if their deal w/ Sony took place after production was finished?
Several reports claim that Marvel had always intended to use the Spider-Man character in their Phase Three films, starting in 2016. Its safe to assume that different versions of the script for Ant-Man existed, just in case the deal was never made.
This report is very much unconfirmed, but I’m going to go with this for argument’s sake. This is a great decision by Marvel. Ever since it was announced that Spider-Man was finally joining the MCU, its all us fans want to see.
I personally did not care for the end credits scene in Avengers: Age of Ultron, and I don’t think you did either. We all wanted to see Spider-Man, and right before the film released I changed my position on when we might see Spidey’s debut to Ant-Man. The report from Latino Review doesn’t mention any post credits featuring the web slinger, and with both Marvel and Sony still deciding who will play Peter Parker, I doubt we will see him.
Then again, Marvel is very much capable of shooting a last minute 30 second teaser, with Ant-Man still more than a month away from its July 17th release date.
What say you?
