Ridley Scott’s “The Martian” Photos Are Nothing Special

Empire Magazine has released new photos for Ridley Scott’s sci-fi thriller The Martian. The film stars an exceptional cast led by Matt Damon, who plays an astronaut named Mark Watney trying to survive on Mars. After being presumably dead by his team, he is left on Mars, only to be injured but alive. With a limited amount of resources, including his oxygen the scientist must survive the red planet and find a way to contact home.

As optimistic and positive as I try to be about movie news, I am unable to do that at the moment. I’m a Matt Damon fan, but these images remind me of his role in last year’s Interstellar and that is not a good thing.

These images also tell me what I already know about Ridley Scott’s films. That it’ll be exceptional visually. Scott as a director hasn’t been himself lately w/ films like The Counselor, Prometheus, and Robin Hood. I cannot ignore the supporting cast for this film, which includes Jessica Chastain, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Kristen Wiig, Jeff Daniels, Sebastian Stan, Kate Mara, Donald Glover, Sean Bean, Mackenzie Davis, and Michael Pena. Guess what other film had a great cast? The Counselor.

Regardless, I’ll admit that I am going to watch this film come November 25th. Long time Ridley Scott fans should know by now to temper their expectations. Here’s the official synopsis is below.

During a manned mission to Mars, Astronaut Mark Watney (Matt Damon) is presumed dead after a fierce storm and left behind by his crew. But Watney has survived and finds himself stranded and alone on the hostile planet. With only meager supplies, he must draw upon his ingenuity, wit and spirit to subsist and find a way to signal to Earth that he is alive.
