Zac Efron Channels His Inner DJ in the First Trailer for ‘We Are Your Friends’

While many think Zac Efron is a pretty boy who hit stardom to young, the last few years has seen him getting back to the basics and really showing off the acting chops he has. He’s put in a solid resume following a bit of a rough patch, and it doesn’t seem to be stopping anytime soon.

His next movie is titled We Are Your Friends where he plays an aspiring DJ looking to make a name for himself, and it now has a first trailer.

Here’s the official synopsis:

We Are Your Friends is about what it takes to find your voice. Set in the world of electronic music and Hollywood nightlife, an aspiring 23-year-old DJ named Cole (Efron) spends his days scheming with his childhood friends and his nights working on the one track that ill set the world on fire. All of this changes when he meets a charismatic but damaged older DJ named James (Bentley), who takes him under his wing. Things get complicated, however, when Cole starts falling for James’ much younger girlfriend, Sophie (Ratajkowski). With Cole’s forbidden relationship intensifying and his friendships unraveling, he must choose between love, loyalty, and the future he is destined for.

I’ll be honest, this was just a trailer I clicked on while scrolling through a page, nothing I was specifically looking for. But after watching it, I’m sure glad I clicked on it. For me, it freaking killed it. I was really into it, so much more than I ever thought. It has the star, it has the cast, it has the story, now all it needed to do was execute and I thought it did it amazingly. Compelling, fun, and it has some major potential in my opinion. It almost felt like an indie film, with that passion and heart behind it, but it’s not. Which I’m really glad it has a wide release because I’m legitimately looking forward to it.

We Are Your Friends opens on August 28th, 2015. Directed by Max Joseph starring Zac Efron, Wes Bentley, Emily Ratajkowski, Jon Bernthal, Jonny Weston, and Shiloh Fernandez.
