Dwayne Johnson Is Confirmed for ‘Furious 8’

Dwayne Johnson in 'Fast Five'

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is known by film fans as “the franchise saver”. Every franchise or sequel he’s joined has reached a higher success, from the heist style Fast & Furious films, to the fun adventure Journey films.

Speaking on the former of the two franchises, Johnson’s Agent Hobbs character had a noticeably smaller role in the highly successful Furious 7. I expect that to drastically change to help fill the void left from Paul Walker’s passing. During an interview with Collider for the upcoming disaster flick San Andreas, Johnson confirmed his involvement in Furious 8 when asked if he would appear, and talked about the proposed Hobbs spin-off film.

Johnson: Of course. It can’t go on without Hobbs. We all are interested in it (the spin-off film). I just had a big conversation with the studio. So we’ll see. I still think for me personally we’ve created a little bit of space for him in 7 and the gauge is set for what  the audience will want. That’s my take on it, you know, but a lot of other people have to have input.

I’d imagine this comes as no surprise to any of you. Although, its nice to hear an update on the Hobbs spin-off film from a legit source. The Fast & Furious franchise is riding at an all time high now that the latest film has crossed the $1 billion mark at the box office. I don’t see a reason why Universal wouldn’t want to move forward, especially when you have a lead in Dwayne Johnson with his star power.

Furious 8 releases in theaters on April 14, 2017
