The magnificent writer/director Quentin Tarantino has a new movie coming out later this year, which is titled The Hateful Eight. Tarantino is one of the best director’s of his time, always creating his own incredible stories with even better execution. Now I haven’t liked all his movies but I give massive credit where it’s due, and after what he did with Django Unchained three years ago, it’s safe to say that whatever he did next would be anxiously waited for.
The Hateful Eight takes place “six or eight or twelve” years after the Civil War when a group of travelers all wind up stuck in the same Wyoming establishment when a blizzard strikes. And now we have our first official look at the movie, along with a full synopsis! All the images come from Entertainment Weekly, and luckily for us each character close-up comes with a character description, which you can read by clicking on the images.
The images highlight the eight cast members, with some repping some impressively fake facial hair and all wearing some fantastic costumes. And if anything, they show how Tarantino is truly emphasizing the Western theme. Out of all Tarantino films, he’s only done three period pieces (Inglorious Basterds, Django Unchained, and The Hateful Eight), but obviously the guy is just damn good at it. As for the look, it does look like a beautifully crafted movie, and I expect no less from Tarantino.
The only question coming out of these first images and the full synopsis from below, where’s Channing Tatum? He’s really been kept under wraps thus far. Tatum expressed his desire to play a role in The Hateful Eight and when it was announced that he was brought on, it came to no surprise as he’s very popular right now. But there’s still a ton of speculation and mystery around what kind of role he’ll be playing. Is it a bigger role or more along the lines of a cameo like his best bud Jonah Hill had in Django Unchained? We have seen Tatum do a quick cameo before in This Is the End. Hopefully we will find out sometime soon.
Along with the new images came a fully loaded official synopsis. And as always, the Tarantino movie just sounds awesome. Check it out:
In The Hateful Eight, set six or eight or twelve years after the Civil War, a stagecoach hurtles through the wintry Wyoming landscape. The passengers, bounty hunter John Ruth (Russell) and his fugitive Daisy Domergue (Leigh), race towards the town of Red Rock where Ruth, known in these parts as “The Hangman,” will bring Domergue to justice. Along the road, they encounter two strangers: Major Marquis Warren (Jackson), a black former union soldier turned infamous bounty hunter, and Chris Mannix (Goggins), a southern renegade who claims to be the town’s new Sheriff. Losing their lead on the blizzard, Ruth, Domergue, Warren and Mannix seek refuge at Minnie’s Haberdashery, a stagecoach stopover on a mountain pass. When they arrive at Minnie’s, they are greeted not by the proprietor but by four unfamiliar faces. Bob (Bichir), who’s taking care of Minnie’s while she’s visiting her mother, is holed up with Oswaldo Mobray (Roth), the hangman of Red Rock, cow-puncher Joe Gage (Madsen), and Confederate General Sanford Smithers (Dern). As the storm overtakes the mountainside stopover, our eight travelers come to learn they may not make it to Red Rock after all…
The Hateful Eight is expected to get a 2015 release date. Written and Directed by Quentin Tarantino starring Kurt Russell, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Samuel L. Jackson, Tim Roth, Walter Goggins, Michael Madsen, Demian Bichir, Bruce Dern, and Channing Tatum is a mysterious role.
