Yes, Magic Mike was without a doubt a women pleaser, I mean it’s a bunch of dudes led by Channing Tatum dancing and stripping. But you take that away and it’s surprisingly a well put together film. That, and dancing men, helped the movie make a significant amount of money. And after many fans and also those behind it pushing for a sequel, it was almost green-lit.
The teaser trailer was released some weeks back and it was more about getting us back into this world with magic Mike and his boys. As for this new trailer, it really shows the boys getting back to the grind after so much time away, Mike in particular. And I might regret saying this, but it’s actually not bad.
Picking up the story three years after Mike bowed out of the stripper life at the top of his game, Magic Mike XXL finds the remaining Kings of Tampa likewise ready to throw in the towel. But they want to do it their way: burning down the house in one last blow-out performance in Myrtle Beach, and with legendary headliner Magic Mike sharing the spotlight with them. On the road to their final show, with whistle stops in Jacksonville and Savannah to renew old acquaintances and make new friends, Mike and the guys learn some new moves and shake off the past in surprising ways.
Like I said above, it’s really not a bad trailer at all. It looks to pick up the story in a well enough spot to keep everyone interested. I never really needed a sequel to the original, obviously. But if I end up liking more stuff following this trailer, I’ll definitely give it a shot. Building off what the original did, it could end up being a really good sequel.
It’s going to be a huge hit regardless because of the type of audience it’s appealing to, women are going to stampede to this movie. But I for one am interested in two things; how the story continues and I’m really looking forward to seeing how all those celebrities that cameoed in this trailer fit into the story. Such as Donald Glover, Jada Pinkett Smith, Elizabeth Banks, and the unbelievably beautiful Amber Heard.
What did you think of the new trailer? Did you want to see a sequel? If so, are you looking forward to it now that you’ve seen the trailers?
