Captain America: Civil War begins shooting in Atlanta this week, which will be an important film moving forward in the M.C.U. The story line will pit Marvel’s two biggest characters, IronMan and Captain America against each other, while the long awaited introduction of Spider-Man will also take place. Logically, a new Spider-Man will have to be cast very soon, with June being when the new actor will have to report on set to film his scenes. Spidey is reported to have a small role in Civil War which will set up his untitled solo film in July 2017. Well, untitled until now apparently.
Latino Review’s Umberto Gonzalez is reporting the film’s title will officially be Spider-Man: The New Avenger. Its been noted within the report that it comes from an unconfirmed source, which makes this just a rumor. Well I don’t care, because I really like it.
I realize the popular and obvious choice for the next Spider-Man film title would include the word Spectacular (given its recognition among comic book fans), but it just doesn’t fit for a live action comic book movie, at least for me. Spider-Man: The New Avenger makes sense given what I’ve heard so far about the character and the film. Peter Parker is going to be a teenager when making his debut and won’t instantly become an Avenger right away. From what I’ve read about the new Spider-Man film, the story will involve (Robert Downey Jr. as) IronMan who will put this young and untrained Spider-Man through various tests to see if he has what it takes to become one of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. Should that be true, and it makes so much sense, then a title like The New Avenger would be fitting.
I guess we’ll wait and find out sometime soon. Drew Goddard is set to direct, with Joe and Anthony Russo as producers. Check out the link below for a shortlist of actors up for the role of Spider-Man.
Spider-Man(: The New Avenger?) will release on July 28, 2017
