Late last week saw WB/DC’s gigantic superhero movie trailer leak online, thanks to someone who decided to record it via camera phone. Which kind of sucks because for many, the first experience of this highly, highly anticipated movie was blurry with foreign subtitles. And by the Warner Bros. scrambled to take it down, most of those looking forward to this movie had already seen it. So just like Marvel last fall (but just not as good or as fast), WB and Zack Snyder decided to release the official HD version of the Batman V Superman trailer. You can see the non-blurry trailer and trailer screenshots below.
The movie still nearly 12 months away, so it is a bit odd to already be releasing a teaser. I understand that this movie is just massive and the need to please fans is a must, but I think the plan to release the trailer this early just wasn’t necessary. Doesn’t mean I didn’t want to see it, because I do, but it sucks that we still have to wait almost a year to see it.
There is no official synopsis for Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice yet, but do you really need one? The synopsis will definitely dig deeper into why, but the title is all you really need. So, without further ado, here’s the first official look at Batman V Superman.
It’s been a few days now since it’s been released which means I’ve watched it a number of times, and I’ll be honest, I still don’t know how I really feel about it. Now obviously, the site of this kind of Batman on screen gets me totally freaking pumped. It’ll without a doubt be the most different Dark Knight we’ve ever seen, and that’s a definite plus. But there were just a few things where I felt…puzzled. One thing that stands out to be is the political aspect of it. The ‘Superman protest’ and seeing False God painted on Supes statue, I don’t know how I feel about it, it just feels out of place. But the major thing that really got to me was the tone of the trailer, that felt out of place more than anything. I wasn’t smiling or clapping or anywhere near excited like I was after watching the trailers for Age of Ultron or Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Does that leave this movie in big question for me?
A small thing worth noting is the new Batvoice from Batfleck. Now we only got a small sample size of what the new voice will sound like, and even though it’s incredibly deep, it could still work. I’ve talked to some people and some are saying that that voice might just be with the super-sized suit Batman will be using to take on Superman. If that’s the case, I will be very disappointing. I don’t want two Batvoices, I want one singular voice that Batman will use. And if that’s it, then I’m totally cool with it, if there are separate voices for separate suits, I’ll be pretty disappointed.
Below you can slow down the above trailer via screenshots. Giving you a closer look into all the different things going on in the trailer. Like wtf is going on with those soldiers sporting Superman’s family crest on their soldier? Is that really a Riddler question mark easter egg? Is Batman wielding a sniper rifle? And more like how freaking massive Batman is and how sick his super suit is.
All in all, the debut trailer for Dawn of Justice was a 50-50 for me. There things that i didn’t love, but there were also some things that I really enjoyed. So far I’m pretty happy with Ben Affleck’s Batman even though there’s such a small sample size. If Zack Snyder is able to recreate the grounded reality as he did in Man of Steel, I should walk out with a smile on my face next Spring. And even though this trailer didn’t do it for me like I had hoped it would, I’m still very much looking forward to seeing more on it throughout the coming months leading up to its release. I mean, it’s about BATMAN VS SUPERMAN!
If you want an in-depth analysis of the trailer and hints at some things you most likely missed, head over to /Film and Screen Rant as they both over-analyze the trailer frame-by-frame and talk about possible easter eggs and their theories. Batman V Superman may be nearly a year away, but don’t be surprised to see more on the superhero juggernaut in the coming weeks/months.
