New ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ Images Released; Charlize Theron Talks Imperator Furiosa

Huge sequels like Avengers: Age of Ultron and Star Wars: The Force Awakens are at the top of many moviegoers list for 2015, but another big movie has quickly joined that conversation. I speak of George Miller’s Mad Max: Fury Road, which has been up picking up some major steam from each trailer that’s released. Showing off it’s eye-popping visuals and incredibly awesome action sequences, really showing why Fury Road needs to be seen on the biggest screen possible.

With a little over just two months to go until its release, Warner Bros. is definitely going to be ramping up the marketing to continue to let moviegoers know about the franchise revival of the mad. Which is kicked off with these new images, thanks to Total Film, that feature Tom Hardy as Mad Max, Charlize Theron as Imperator Furiosa, and the group known as ‘The Five Wives’.

Here’s a look at the cover for the latest issue of Total Film, featuring Hardy’s Max and Theron’s Furiosa:

The images don’t offer a ton or give any real insight into the movies plot, but that’s okay. Everything we’ve seen so far on Fury Road hasn’t been plot focused, it’s been more directed at selling moviegoers on the huge scope, as well as the big and very intense set pieces.

For those who are familiar with the Mad Max franchise, you know that the stakes are continuously being raised. One character who looks very much in her element and looks like she’ll be able to handle anything that comes her way (just from the trailers) in the post-apocalyptic wasteland is Charlize Theron’s Imperator Furiosa. Along with the images above, Total Film released an interview with Theron where she talked about how Furiosa will stand next to Max:

“George (Miller) really wanted a woman to stand alongside Max. And that was all I knew, and I just thought, ‘Whoa, for a woman to stand next to him in that world, that would be pretty f***ing cool.’ He was really kind of exploring women in this world at every age and there was something, selfishly, that I thought was almost better than Max. It’s very hard for a woman to feel that way when she steps into a world like that.”

When we usually get a male lead blockbuster movie, many more times than not we don’t get a strong female character so it’s very refreshing and cool to hear that we’ll be getting a female character just as badass (and mad) as a male character like Mad Max. And with movies like Wonder Woman and Captain Marvel coming out in the next few years, Theron’s Furiosa (along with Johansson’s Black Widow) could be a template for not just how future action heroines are written, but how their seen by moviegoers.

Stay close as Mad Max: Fury Road‘s marketing will continue to get hot in the coming weeks for one of this years most looked forward to movies.

Mad Max: Fury Road smashes into theaters on May 15th, 2015. Written and directed by George Miller starring Tom Hardy, Charlize Theron, Nicholas Hoult, Zoë Kravitz, Nathan Jones, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Riley Keough, Josh Helman, and Hugh Keays-Byrne.
