Martin Scorsese Will Direct Jamie Foxx In Mike Tyson Biopic

His last boxing feature earned eight nominations, including a Best Actor win for DeNiro, and now he is doing another. Raging Bull director Martin Scorsese will in fact direct the untitled Mike Tyson biopic (Iron Mike?). The news comes from the star of the pic himself Jamie Foxx in an interview with Power 105’s The Breakfast Club.

“I just went in with Paramount with Mike Tyson. So I’m going to do the Mike Tyson story. Listen, to be in the same room pitching Mike Tyson to Paramount, Mike Tyson is on one side, I’m on the other side and doing Mike Tyson at the same time. And Martin Scorsese at the helm. This will be the first boxing movie that Martin Scorsese has done since Raging Bull.”

Where do I begin to express how excited I am for this? I’m a huge fan of Mike Tyson, and what he brought to the boxing world in his prime. To see his biopic get an award winning director, an award winning lead actor (who also won portraying another icon in Ray Charles), along with Oscar nominated writer Terence Winter (Wolf of Wall Street), this biopic has a real shot at being one of the greatest. Its also a very tragic and dark story for anyone who knows anything about Mike Tyson. I’m really looking forward to seeing how Scorsese and Winter treat this, after seeing what they did w/ Jordan Bellfort’s story in Wolf of Wall Street.

More information will be released once a production start date is announced.
