Who really knows why Eddie Murphy did what he did at SNL 40, I’m over that. All I know is when he went on stage all eyes were glued on him. His presence alone took control and command of that stage. It wasn’t the comeback many expected, but it showed that everyone is ready for Murphy again, because we all know what he’s capable of. I think his addition to the Richard Pryor biopic is just what he needs to remind everyone. It’s the kind of project that I feel will bring out the best in him, because its about a person who inspired him.
E! Online is reporting that Eddie Murphy is in talks to play Pryor’s father, former boxer LeRoy “Buck Carter” Pryor, but I don’t see this as a role which Murphy will pass up. Especially considering the film’s director in Lee Daniels, and the exceptional work he did in films like Precious and The Butler. Then of course there’s this picture from Daniel’s instagram account.
Strap in and brace yourself. They done let me and him out of our cages! #idonteventhinkimreadyforthisone! #excited #proud #OMG
Many believe that Murphy was snubbed of an Oscar win in 2006 for Best Supporting Actor (Dreamgirls). Since then he’s been in many not so good films, probably collecting those paychecks. Murphy is a proven talent in dramatic roles, and I’m ready for his comeback in this role.
Production on the Richard Pryor biopic is expected to start within the next couple of months.
