Gone Girl was, without a doubt, my favorite movie of last year so you can imagine my excitement for another Gillian Flynn adaptation in Dark Places. One of the reasons Gone Girl worked so well was a strong performance from a female lead (Rosamund Pike) and knowing how great of an actress Charlize Theron is leaves me to believe that we are in for another great film. I’m surprised that I’m just recently hearing about Dark Places since it’s very appealing to me but I suppose I didn’t think there would be another adaptation from Gillian Flynn this soon. Also, Dark Places is technically a foreign film since it was directed by French-director Gilles Paquet-Brenner and is being released in Europe first, with no official release date for the U.S. other than some time in 2015.
In case you couldn’t tell from watching the trailer, here’s a synopsis on Dark Places from IMDB in order to get a better understanding of the plot:
A woman who survived the brutal killing of her family as a child is forced to confront the events of that day by a secret society obsessed with solving notorious crimes.
I have not read the book Dark Places so my thoughts on the trailer are pure speculation. From the looks of it the movies seems to be similar to Gone Girl in the sense that the viewer doesn’t know what the final outcome will be and it will keep us guessing the entire film. I personally love movies like this where there can be unexpected plot-twists that F with your mind. I wasn’t aware of this film until recently but now that I know it’s coming this year, it is easily in my top 15 most anticipated for the rest of 2015.
