First Look: Zack Syder Unveils the First Image of Jason Momoa as Aquaman!

Before Jason Momoa was officially Aquaman, we all knew he was Aquaman. But after it came official, we learned that he would in fact have some kind of.. introduction in Batman V Superman come 2016. Whether it would be a five second cameo or a full scene, we would see Momoa as the King of Atlantis. Since then it has been pretty quiet on that front, other than ‘take with a grain of salt’ details floating around.

Along with the Aquaman front being quiet, Batman V Superman director Zack Snyder has been pretty silent on social media as well. We’ve seen him drop stuff for Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman on Twitter, but noting in the last good handful of months, until now.

Late last night saw Snyder resurface out of nowhere and tweet out an image that gives us our first official look at Jason Momoa as Aquaman. Not only that, but the image has a very, very interesting tagline along with the great look at Momoa.

And here’s the full-size:

Jason Momoa as Aquaman

While I would have absolutely loved to see The New 52 version of Aquaman brought to the DC Cinematic Universe, I am digging the look and take on this Aquaman hard. Since the casting of Momoa, we kind of knew the route that Snyder and team would take with this character, but we didn’t know how far he wold go. This image gives us some great insight into what kind of King of Atlantis we will see.

It’s dark, it’s gritty, it’s hardcore. The tattoos are pretty damn awesome, the long hair and big beard with the light streaks, again, is pretty damn awesome. And for the type of style the DC movies have gone so far, it makes sense that we won’t be seeing the famous orange and green suit we are accustomed to seeing. There’s no doubt we’ll be seeing accents of orange and green to pay homage, but this take is much, much more grounded, and one that Momoa crushes.

But now on to the tagline with the image, ‘Unite the Seven’. I’m guessing it’s referring to the seven members of the Justice League. It’s interesting though, let’s just run with it. If the first image of Momoa as Aquaman has this phrase instead of just the image, will Snyder be releasing more up-close images of each JL member? I sure as hell hope so! Also, seven… It’s almost a guarantee that we will be seeing each member of the JL in the next two years, before some of their standalone movies. As for the seven members – Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg, Flash, and Green Lantern.

Now… will we see them all at some point in Batman V Superman? Or will the first time for some be in the first Justice League? It looks likes we’ll be seeing five of those members come next March, as for the rest, only time will tell.

I would definitely recommend staying close as it looks like Zack Snyder may not be done giving us some more juicy stuff for the (his) DC Universe. But for now, what are your thoughts on Aquaman’s first live-action and look?
