After the month of January having just a few movie that were actually worth seeing (American Sniper, Selma, and A Most Violent Year), February looks like it has the potential to be much more exciting. Luckily many genres are represented to choose from: sci-fi, fantasy, action, drama, comedy, and horror. Even though there are a number to choose from, here are the four I’m looking forward to the most.
4. Jupiter Ascending
In a bright and colorful future, a young destitute caretaker gets targeted by a ruthless son of a powerful family that live on a planet in need of a new heir, so she travels with a genetically engineered warrior to the planet in order to stop his tyrant reign.
The science-fiction genre is definitely my weak spot, with possibilities so wide. And although Jupiter Ascending does have some good things going for it, I can’t seem to get pass all the issues that have revolved around it – with the big one being that it was pushed back more than a year. While I’m hoping it can surprise me and be pretty entertaining, I’m just a bit hesitant.
Jupiter Ascending will open February 6th, 2015.
3. Hot Tub Time Machine 2
When Lou, who has become the “father of the Internet,” is shot by an unknown assailant, Jacob and Nick fire up the time machine again to save their friend.
The first Hot Tub Time Machine is definitely one loved comedy of mine, so I for one am very much looking forward to the sequel. Every piece of footage I’ve seen has been outrageously funny and really enjoyable. The only thing I hope is that most of the comedy moments were saved for the movie instead of being put into the trailers, crossing my fingers.
Hot Tub Time Machine 2 splashes into theaters on February 20th, 2015.
2. Focus
A veteran grifter takes a young, attractive woman under his wing, but things get complicated when they become romantically involved.
A heist movie plus two of my favorite actors in Will Smith and Margot Robbie? Hell yeah. It looks fun, it looks entertaining, and I’m really looking forward to seeing Smith and Robbie bounce off each other.
Focus opens February 27th, 2015.
1. Kingsman: The Secret Service
Based upon the acclaimed comic book and directed by Matthew Vaughn, Kingsman: The Secret Service tells the story of a super-secret spy organization that recruits an unrefined but promising street kid into the agency’s ultra-competitive training program just as a global threat emerges from a twisted tech genius.
Before I saw any early reviews, Kingsman was definitely one of the movies I was looking forward to the most in the beginning of the year. After reading early reviews on it, I’m just that much more excited. A more fun and laid back version of James Bond while keeping the awesome action? That sounds like a damn good time.
Kingsman: The Secret Service has a February 13th, 2015 release date.
Honorable mentions: ’71 (already seen), Maps to the Stars, The DUFF, and Seventh Son.
Which February release are you looking forward to the most?
