Lego Batman – Can Batman lighten up?
One of the best moves Warner Bros. did last year was announcing a Lego Batman spin-off. After the huge success of last year’s The Lego Movie, it comes as no surprise that the studio would capitalize on the success with sequels and spin-off films. Returning as the writers and producers on the film are Phil Lord and Chris Miller, who both have been on a hot streak with their directorial work and story creativity. Taking over as director for the Batman spin-off is Chris McKay, with Will Arnett returning to voice Batman.
During a recent interview with MTV news, Lord, Miller, and Arnett shared some news about the fun story for Lego Batman.
“No spoilers. But I will say I think the movie is really exciting because it’s about ‘Can Batman be happy?’”
That’s a fun idea that could work very well in a Lego Batman movie. The character has certainly been given a dark tone in the Nolan films, and from the images that Zack Snyder shared of Ben Affleck’s Batman, it looks like the live action films will continue on that. This is a great way to poke fun at the character’s over seriousness.
Further details on Lego Batman suggest that the film will acknowledge every era of Batman filmmaking, which opens the door for even more fun jokes. Lego Batman will hit theaters on May 26, 2017.
