Would you have ever in your wildest dreams thought there would be a movie directed by Steven Spielberg that’s written by the Coen brothers which stars Tom Hanks? Me neither, but it’s happening! Anytime we get another Spielberg/Hanks collaboration, it’s always something to look forward to – but then you add the Coen brothers writing that movie based during the Cold War? Yeah, can you say Oscar?
There is no official synopsis, but this movie tells the true story of James Donovan, a lawyer working for the CIA to secretly negotiate the release of a U.S. pilot shot down over Soviet airspace in 1960.
Of course James Donovan will be played by Hanks, you can see him and Spielberg in the first image below:
Thanks to Entertainment Weekly for debuting the image. I’m personally pretty damn excited for this one. The Cold War is one of the most interesting times in our history, and even though Spielberg is directing and Hanks is starring, among others, this movies major appeal comes from the screenplay which is written by Joel and Ethan Coen. This is definitely one to look out for come the last half of next year.
The Untitled Cold War Spy Thriller will open October 16th, 2015. Directed by Steven Spielberg starring Tom Hanks, Amy Ryan, Mark Rylance, Alan Alda, Austin Stowell, Billy Magnussen, and Eve Hewson.
