Mark Wahlberg signed on for Transformers 5, and 6?

A couple months ago I called Transformers: Age of Extinction the worst thing to happen to blockbusters since the Sam Raimi directed Spider-Man 3 (or Green Lantern, take your pick). There’s no doubt that the film was a financial success, taking in over $1 billion dollars worldwide, with $841 million coming internationally. Now Paramount Pictures is moving forward with Transformers 5 and while the only hiccup in the process is whether Michael Bay will return to direct a fifth film in the installment or not, its confirmed that their lead from the previous film in Mark Wahlberg  is returning.

“I committed to doing a couple more.  I can’t speak for Mr. Bay but something tells me we’ll be on the set soon.” (MTV)

I’m a fan of Mark Wahlberg as an actor. In films like The Fighter and Lone Survivor I thought he brought it, performance wise. Even this year’s The Gambler is looking good, but I was hoping he’d leave the Transformers franchise behind after one film. Look, Age of Extinction at one point prior to its release was looking like a game changer for the franchise after Dark of the Moon, but it wasn’t. The film instead cemented fan speculation that the studio doesn’t care about the property or making a good film, and just wants to sell toys and make a lazy blockbuster using tricks we seen time and time again. If I had to choose between Mark Wahlberg doing another Transformers movie or a sequel to Tim Burton’s Planet of the Apes…. I’d probably go with Transformers, but we’re not talking about that here.
My only two hopes are that they’re paying Marky Mark a ton of money since the last film made a ton of money, and that Michael Bay doesn’t return to direct. I already stated in the past, the only thing I want to see from Bay is a Bad Boys 3. Looking closely at Mark’s statement though, it looks like the two just might be re-teaming up again for a fifth film. Hail Hydra.

You’ve heard my rant about this news, I’m curious to hear your opinion.
