‘Terminator: Genisys’ Trailer Released: Arnold Is Back

The Terminator franchise has been one of ups and downs; particularly the first two films, The Terminator (1984) and Terminator 2: Judgement Day (1991) being the upside and the last two Rise of the Machines (2003)  and Salvation (2009) being the downers. Well whether you like or dislike any of the previous films, the fifth installment, titled Terminator Genisys (Not a typo, that’s the actual spelling) is on it’s way and the trailer for the upcoming July 1, 2015 release is here!

Directed by Allen Taylor (Thor: The Dark World) Terminator Genisys stars Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones) as Sarah Conner, Jai Courtney as Kyle Reese, Jason Clarke as John Conner, and Arnold Schwarzenegger back as the Terminator. The trailer shows us that this new iteration of the Terminator films will have a twist on the original. The synopsis for the film is as follows, courtesy of IMDB:

The year is 2029. John Connor, leader of the resistance continues the war against the machines. At the Los Angeles offensive, John’s fears of the unknown future begin to emerge when TECOM spies reveal a new plot by SkyNet that will attack him from both fronts; past and future, and will ultimately change warfare forever.

This movie will stay within the same universe as all of the previous ones did but somehow in this version Sarah Conner is already aware that the future of machine domination is coming and by the time Kyle Reese reaches her in the past, she had already knew when and where he was going to arrive. I think this is an interesting concept and hopefully it works. The trailer itself was just okay in my opinion. The nostalgia of it was awesome as it felt like we were back in that world from the first two movies but some of the time travel and rearrangement of the story felt forced.

I am still looking forward to this movie very much. The fact that they have Arnold back is enough for me to be on board and another shape shifting Terminator (like in T2) has me all in. I just fear that this movie could end up being really cheesy if they try to force too much of the feel from the previous movies into this one. I think they might have been better off just doing a complete reboot, that way they could’ve started fresh and not worry about any of the timeline. Either way this movie is coming in the Summer of 2015 and I will be there to see it on opening weekend.

What did you guys think of the trailer? Was it cool to see Arnold back or do you wish they would leave the Terminator franchise as it is. Please let us know in the comment section.
