Following the news that Warner Bros./DC were officially searching for a female director for Wonder Woman, a number of names have been mentioned since then. Kathryn Bigelow, Catherine Hardwick, and Mimi Leder just to name a few. But throughout al the search and rumors, Warner Bros./DC have found their woman to helm the first cinematic universe female-led superhero movie in Michelle MacLaren.
It was officially announced today that WB has brought on Michelle MacLaren to direct Wonder Woman starring Gal Gadot. There is no script as of yet, but MacLaren will no doubt get directly on writing it along with the writer(s), who are unnamed as of now.
It was also announced that Zack Snyder, Deborah Snyder, and Charles Roven will produce the movie. Snyder is having a hand in each movie, really making it known that WB and DC believe in him and want him to take this universe full steam ahead.
She wasn’t my first choice as Director, I think we all wanted Kathryn Bigelow. I personally would’ve liked to see what Patty Jenkins could’ve done, after all, she was in line to direct Thor: The Dark World before having to drop out. But the two-time emmy award winner will definitely do! I’m happy with the choice and very interested to see the kind of character and world she will bring to the table. MacLaren is best known for her work on AMC’s hit television show Breaking Bad, but she has also directed episodes of Games of Thrones, The Walking Dead, and The Leftovers – three of those four names are arguably the best shows on TV, period. Keep that in mind, this could definitely mean great things for, potentially, a gigantic movie for WB/DC.
True fans should be pretty happy with the name they got. Wonder Woman is one of DC comics trio and also the biggest female superhero, ever. This character is now is very capable hands. And although this will be her first feature film, now knowing that she will have a hand in the script and character developmental stage, that’s a big check mark next to her directing ability.
Wonder Woman is set for a June 23rd, 2017 release date. Directed by Michelle MacLaren starring Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman.
