Let’s talk Marvel Phase 3

Anyone catch the footage of Marvel Media Day? Seeing Kevin Feige (Producer & President of Marvel) walk on the stage reminded me of when Steve Jobs took the stage at an Apple event.. Anyways, here’s the current slate for Marvel Phase 3 films.

Captain America: Civil War – May 6 2016

Doctor Strange – November 4, 2016

Guardians of the Galaxy 2 – May 5 2017

Thor: Ragnarok – July 28, 2017

Black Panther – November 3, 2017

Avengers: Infinity War – Part 1 – May 4, 2018

Captain Marvel – July 6, 2018

Inhumans – November 2, 2018

Avengers: Infinity War – Part 2 – May 3, 2019

So anyone who’s been following recent Marvel rumors may somewhat have expected half these titles to be announced. Now we have a much more clear idea of the direction in which the studio is taking the Cinematic Universe.

New characters Doctor Strange, Black Panther, and Captain Marvel are getting introductions leading up to the Infinity War films where the heroes unite against Thanos. Out of those three new characters only Black Panther’s character revealed the actor playing him, Chadwick Boseman (called it!).

After for the returning characters who will be getting follow ups to their sequels, things won’t be getting better for Captain America and Thor.

Starting off with Captain America, the subtitle Civil War tells me that he will ultimately clash with Tony Stark regarding who superheros will work under (confirmed by Feige). Now reports are suggesting that the Black Panther will play an important role during Civil War, similar to how Spider-Man did in the comics. This will all tie into the events of Age of Ultron, which reports suggest that by the end of the film the Avengers will be split.

As for Thor, the subtitle Ragnarok means the end of all things. The story could pick up with where The Dark World left off (SPOILERS), Loki didn’t die and was sitting on Odin’s throne while Thor left for Earth. I haven’t read the comics, but Comic Book fans who would know more than me suggest it could be the destruction of Asgard.

No word on what exactly Guardians of the Galaxy 2 will be about, but does it matter? You and I both loved the first film, and can’t wait to see where the team goes next. Maybe more Thanos, you know since it deals heavily with the cosmic side, and that the Mad Titan only has so many films before Infinity War.

Doctor Strange film was finally announced, but no word on who will play the main character. Feige wouldn’t confirm if Benedict Cumberbatch signed on, and why would he if he hasn’t yet (This ain’t Sony). I’m sure negotiations are still going on, and we’ll get an announcement soon. Either that or Feige just didn’t want to announce everything just yet.

Then there’s the Inhumans, which introduces not one, but a dozen or more character. I actually wrote a blog post awhile back on these guys and Vin Diesel possibly starring in the lead role. (Inhumans)

Last but not least Captain Marvel. Marvel’s first female superhero film is coming in 2018. With Sony and DC teasing/announcing female lead films Marvel choose to answer with one of their own. Not much is known except the character is in fact Carol Danvers.

This is HUGE for Marvel fans everywhere, too big enough for one post. Look for further details on these films including casting announcements and directors! As for Marvel’s announcements, which one are you most excited about?
