Long has Marvel fans been speculating that someone in Avengers: Age of Ultron will be killed off. For one, Director Joss Whedon is known to shake things up as evident from his previous work. In the comics, the Avengers roster constantly changed, so it’s bound to happen sooner or later in the films right? Here’s what Kevin Feige (Producer and President of Marvel Studios) had to say on the matter.
“The Avengers films, ideally, in the grand plan are always big, giant linchpins… It’s like as it was in publishing, when each of the characters would go on their own adventures and then occasionally team up for a big, 12-issue mega-event. Then they would go back into their own comics, and be changed from whatever that event was. I envision the same thing occurring after this movie, because the [Avengers] roster is altered by the finale of this film.” (Buzzfeed)
Kevin Feige can be such a tease when it comes to the future of Marvel characters and story lines. So in my mind either someone is gonna die or get exiled. At first many thought it would be Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), but that door closed when he was reportedly getting a bigger role in Captain America 3.
It’s widely speculated that the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) will lose control and be sent of to space (Planet Hulk story line). The brief footage shown in the recent Avengers: Age of Ultron teaser suggest that its a likely possibility, but I don’t think Marvel would do that an essential character that quickly. Others have also suggested that Quicksilver (Aaron Taylor Johnson) will die based off the shot we see of Scarlett Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) dropping to her knees and screaming in terror.
My bold prediction is that Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow) will get killed off, sending Tony Stark (Robert you-know-who) into a downward spiral mentality knowing that his creation killed his love. This could set up the Captain America 3 rumored stand off between Stark and Rogers, as Stark’s ideals about the responsibility of superheros could drastically change (Civil War).
